Preheat the oven to 350°F. Generously butter and lightly flour 20 three-inch-long madeleine molds. Set aside.
In a large bowl, with electric mixer on high, beat eggs and granulated sugar until light and thick, about 5 minutes. In another bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, and salt, then gently fold in egg and sugar mixture. Add melted butter, lemon peel, and juice, and fold in until combined.
Spoon mixture into the molds and bake 20 to 25 minutes, or until golden. Remove from oven and turn out onto a rack. When cooled, dust with confectioners’ sugar. Store in an airtight container.
